Rachel Earnest is an award-winning writer, director, and producer. Hailing from Oceanside, California, she grew up in a surfing family. She earned her BFA in Film Production at Chapman University where her thesis film, LE RETOUR, went on to screen at more than 50 film festivals and win numerous awards. After graduation, she continued her education at the College International de Cannes in France where she studied French language, cinema, and literature.

 

Her short film, MOVING OUT, which was produced through the Film Independent Fiscal Sponsorship Program, premiered at the San Diego International Film Festival and won Best Female Short Film at Film Out San Diego, Best LGBTQ Short at City of Angels Women's Film Festival, and was nominated at the San Diego Awards and the Atlanta Women’s Film Festival. She also co-directed a branded campaign for Pride Socks called “Stand Tall” starring LGBTQ activist/former NBA athlete, Jason Collins, in support of Point Foundation. 

 

Her producing credits include the feature film, MARY MARIE which won Best Cinematography at the Brooklyn Film Festival and received praise from VARIETY, NY MAGAZINE, and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. The film was distributed by TLA Releasing and is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime. FOOD 2050, a feature documentary that she co-produced, was filmed in 8 countries around the world in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation.

 

She has worked on the lot at NBCUniversal and as a story analyst for the Sundance Institute. In her free time, she enjoys reading a good thriller and learning Italian.
